Party chief starts tour to neighbor country for closer ties

VGP – Việt Nam and Laos pledge to make full use of their respective strengths and potentials on the principles of equality, mutual benefit and closer cooperation.

The Communist Party of Việt Nam’s General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh today arrived in Vientiane, starting his official visit to Laos.

He had talks with Mr. Choummaly Saynasone, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, President of Laos right after his welcoming ceremony.

The two leaders agreed to further strengthen the comprehensive cooperation between Việt Nam and Laos on the basis of national independence, sovereignty, self-reliance, bringing into play their respective strengths and potentials for closer equal cooperation of mutual benefits.

Emphasizing economic cooperation, the leaders showed their determination to expand and diversify commercial exchanges; encourage investment; create favorable conditions for long-term business cooperation; and promote the establishment of border-gate economic zones and infrastructure connectivity.

They also urged their inferiors to design the cooperation program for 2011-2015 and the Cooperation Strategy for 2011-2020.

Also on April 13, General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh had meetings with leaders of the Lao National Assembly, Government, and the Lao Front for National Construction.
