Philippines asked to ensure safety for Vietnamese citizens

VGP – Viet Nam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 11 asked the Philippines to address the capture of Vietnamese citizens and ensure safety for them.

According to the Philippine functional agencies, after the attacks on the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group in the southern region of Tolo, the local army has found some deaths, including a Vietnamese citizen named Tran Viet Van.

The Vietnamese Embassy in the Philippines is cooperating with local relevant agencies to complete forensic and legal procedures and prepare necessary conditions to bring the body or remains of the victim home at his family’s wish.

On July 11, 2017, the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Chargé d' affaires of the Embassy of the Philippines in Viet Nam asking the Philippine side to urgently clarify and address the issue.

Earlier on July 6, the Philippines verified two victims as Vietnamese citizens, namely Hoang Trung Thong and Hoang Van Hai, sailors of Royal 16 ship. They were kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group in November 2016.
