Phú Quốc Island to become a grand tourism and services hub

VGP - Phú Quốc Island, Kiên Giang Province, will be developed into a special economic-administrative zone, a center for eco-tourism, convalescence and entertainment, and a financial center of the region.

A corner of Phú Quốc Island

The above orientations are part of the PM’s recently-issued decision on the overall planning scheme of Phú Quốc Island.

Three urban areas

The future Phú Quốc Island will have a core surrounded by satellite areas, which will be connected to the international seaports of An Thới, Bãi Đất Đó, and international airport of Dương Tơ.

The Dương Đông urban area will serve as the island’s administrative-trade-financial-tourism-populous core.

It is estimated that around 2-3 million visitors come to Phú Quốc Island yearly by 2020 and the figure is forecast to rise to 5-7 million in 2030, including 45-50% of foreign arrivals.

Forest reserve for eco-tourism, handicraft villages, and high-tech agriculture will be developed in the North; seaports, airport in the South; eco-tourism and handicraft villages in the West; and agriculture and natural landscapes in the East.

Fifteen eco-tourism sites

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng asked the People’s Committee of Kiên Giang Province to publicize the master planning for Phú Quốc Island.

Eco-tourism is one of the island’s main industries with a network of 15 sites, including Bãi Thơm, Gành Dầu, Rạch Tràm, Rạch Vẹm, Bài Dài, Vũng Bầu, Cửa Cạn, Bãi Ông Lang, etc.

Public services and grand hotels, trade centers will be located here.

The Phú Quốc International Airport, some seaports like An Thới, Dương Đông, Vịnh Đầm, and Bãi Thơm, and arterial roads will be built first.
