As planned, the island will have 3,500 hotel rooms (3-star standard ones and more luxurious account for 30-35%) by 2010, 8,200 rooms (3-star standard ones and more luxurious, 55-60%) by 2015 and 18,000 by 2020 (3-star standard ones and more luxurious, 60-70%). Tourism income will reach US$ 209 million by 2010 and US$ 771 million by 2015 and 2020 respectively.

The island will develop urban tourist spaces; marine tourism and luxurious convalescence; sightseeing tours of ecosystem; tourism combined with preservation of coastal landscaping; cultural and sporting tourism, recreation and shopping malls in urban areas.

The Decision says that at the heart of Phú Quốc’s tourism will be the Dương Đông-Dương Tơ tourism district and its surroundings offering recreation, shopping, sporting, mountaineering, camping, sightseeing tours to historical and cultural sites, visits to traditional handicraft villages and farms, conventions and conferences.

The An Thới tourism district and its surroundings will be a provider of luxurious sightseeing, convalescence, and marine sports, offering visits to historical and revolutionary sites, traditional craft villages and islets and recreation.

The Cửa Cạn tourism district and its surroundings to the north will be associated with national parks and beaches, offering convalescence, adventurous expeditions, treks in national parks, boating, visits to historical sites and farms, golfing, and horse and dog racing.

Up to 2010, the island will concentrate on preparing infrastructure and tourism service facilities for the targeted arrivals by 2010. The immediate goal is to form some luxurious tourist resorts and recreational parks.

By 2020, it is expected that Phú Quốc will become an advanced tourism center highly competitive and connected to other tourism centers in the region and the world.
