Phú Yên: A new gateway to develop the Central Highlands

According to the general planning scheme for the socio-economic development of Phú Yên to 2020, which was just approved by the PM, the coastal province in southern Central Việt Nam will have one city, two towns and nine townships.

Phú Yên strives to become an industrial and service province by 2020, having the average growth rate of 15.2% per year during the period of 2011–2015. Its export and service turnover will be raised ten times, from US $150 million by 2010 to US $1,500 million by 2020. The province will do its best to reduce the poverty rate from 9% in 2010 down to below 3.4% in 2015 and to zero by 2020.

Phú Yên will pour its investment capital into industries, prioritizing electronics, oil refining and petrochemitry, shipbuilding, agro and marine product processing, electricity, and clean water supply.

Under the planning scheme, tourism will be boosted to become a key economic sector and a clean industry, with various routes to the coast and the Central Highlands.

The province is also a traffic hub in the region. Especially, a railway route linking Phú Yên and the Central Highlands will be built and expanded to Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.
