Piaggio opens new scooter engine plant in VN

VGP - Italian scooter manufacturer Piaggio on March 1 opened a new plant in at Bình Xuyên industrial park, in the northern province of Vĩnh Phúc.

The move kicked off the second phase of the group’s business development strategy in Asia-Pacific.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoàng Trung Hải lauded the achievements of Piaggio in Việt Nam. Mr. Hải also proposed the scooter manufacture to renovate its products and apply eco-friendly technology in Việt Nam.

Piaggio Chairman and CEO Roberto Colaninno said that the plant will manufacture engines for the group’s new scooter models produced in Italy, Việt Nam and India.

The plant will manufacture scooter engines, helping to raise Piaggio Việt Nam’s production capacity from 140,000 scooters to 300,000 per year.

In its strategy, the group focuses on emerging market with the aim of 1 million scooters in global sales in 2014./.
