Mr. Sang, born in 1949 in Mỹ Hạnh Commune, Đức Hòa District, the southern province of Long An, has hold a number of positions, including the Secretary of the Hồ Chí Minh City Party Committee and the permanent member of CPV Central Committee’s Secretariat.

The newly-elected leader pledged that during his term of office, he will focus on building a strong rule-of-law state, amending and supplementing the 1992 Constitution, and improving the quality and the efficiency of law making and enforcement.

Other priorities, as he said, will include the building of a contingent of competent public servants, acceleration of administrative and judiciary reforms, and the fight against corruption and waste.

The new head of state also stated that he will also focus on improving socialism-oriented market-based economic institution, renovating growth model, restructuring the economy, and scaling up the protection of the environment.

State President Sang nominated Ms. Nguyễn Thị Doan as the Vice State President, Mr. Nguyễn Tấn Dũng as the Prime Minister, Mr. Trương Hòa Bình as the Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court, and Mr. Nguyễn Hòa Bình as the Head of the Supreme People’s Procuracy.

The 13th NA will vote for the above positions on July 26.
