PM Dung holds talks with Algerian counterpart
 
PM Nguyen Tan Dung and his Algerian counterpart, Abdelmalek Sellal have agreed to accelerate the Viet Nam-Algeria relations to a new height on par with the sound bilateral political ties.
 
The two leaders made the agreement during a talks held in Algers.
 
The two leaders informed each other on situation of each country, the region and the world.
 
Both agreed that the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries have seen sound developments though results are still limited, not on par with potential and expectations of both sides.
 
VN, Switzerland vow to speed up FTA talks
 
Viet Nam and Switzerland have agreed to speed up the free trade agreement negotiations between Viet Nam and the EFTA States (Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Lichtenstein).
 
The agreement was jointly made by Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh and Swiss FM Didier Burkhalter at the press briefing after their talks in Ha Noi.
 
At the talks, both sides expressed their pleasure at the positive development of the bilateral ties in various fields like politics, economy, trade, investment, development cooperation and education and training.
 
The two countries have regularly exchanged delegations at all levels, maintained effective mechanisms such as political consultation and human rights dialogue.
 
The two sides agreed to further enhance the bilateral relations and coordinate in organizing a number of activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2016.
 
Swiss Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City inaugurated
 
The new headquarters of the Swiss Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City was inaugurated in the presence of Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Didier Burkhalter. 

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Swiss foreign affairs chief said that the opening of the Swiss Consulate General in the largest economic hub of Vietnam symbolises the important development and expansion of the bilateral ties. 

He affirmed that the new representative office will help boost economic exchanges between the two countries, actively supporting Swiss enterprises’ operations in Viet Nam.

VN attends 104th International Labour Conference
 
A delegation of Vietnamese senior executives attended the 104th session of the InternationalLabour Conference (ILC) of the International LabourOrganisation (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland.
 
The two-week conference will focus on the realisation of the 2015-2016 ILO Programme and Budget, the transitions from the informal to the formal economy and the implementation of strategic social security objectives. 

This year’s event is also a forum for delegations to engage in open dialogues on social and labourissues which remain key global priorities.
 
An Giang improves agricultural sector through GAP
 
The Mekong Delta province of An Giang will spend VND2.25 billion (US$ 107,000) to support the local agricultural sector by applying Good Agriculture Practice (GAP) standards during 2015-2016.

Accordingly, GAP’s standards will be applied for 50 agricultural production models of individuals and organisations.

Those who want to receive support to apply GAP standard should meet certain requirements, such as meeting the State’s regulations on environment, taxation and food safety. 

They should pledge to improve product quality and quantity; expand the market, boost exports and continue to carry out other solutions after receiving the support.

 
Garment, footwear exports surge high
 
Garment and footwear exports obtained an impressive growth in the first five months of this year.
 
In May, output of natural fabrics was estimated at 26.8 million sq.m, a year-on-year rise of 5.5% while that of synthetic fabrics dipped 4.9% to 66.3 millionsq.m and casual clothing rose 9% to 262.3 million units.
 
The figures in five months are 118.2 million sq.m (up 2.3%), 287.1 million sq.m (up 1.8%) and 1,212.2 million units (up 2.3%), respectively.
