Prioritizing power transmission projects in 2012

VGP – Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai tasked the electricity sector to prioritize resources for power transmission projects amid the current economic hardship.

May 30, 2012 8:31 PM GMT+7

The Deputy PM made the request at a meeting on Wednesday to review the implementation of projects relating to Electricity Planning VII and discussed solutions for the coming time.

He stressed that power transmission is the top mission for the sector in 2012.

Report shows that only Son La and Hua Na hydro power projects and Mao Khe 1 thermal power project have caught up with schedule. Other projects are still behind schedule between three to  twelve months.

Capital shortage is mainly attributed to the slow progress of electricity projects. Moreover, site clearance and the lack of raw materials and synchronous factors between source and net projects have also contributed to lengthen project progress.

To deal with the situation, Deputy PM Hai asked the banking sector to accelerate disbursement of committed credit for power projects.

In the long run, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is responsible for regulating power prices in accordance with market rules to call for more investment in this sector.

Deputy PM Hai also noted the need to resolve the problems of site clearance especially in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and connection projects in the South./.
