Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan addresses at the TVET conference, Ha Noi, October

The two-day conference was jointly hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Under the theme “Regional TVET conference in Viet Nam – TVET Quality Breakthrough”, it focuses on vocational standards, relations with businesses in vocational training, development of competent trainees and budget for vocational training.

Statistics show that as by 2011, Viet Nam has had 136 junior colleges; 308 vocational training schools, 849 vocational training centers and 1,000 others. The rate of trained workers in total workforce reached 32%.

Delegates recommended that Viet Nam needs more support and assistance from other countries and international organizations, including Germany and ASEAN to make breakthroughs in vocational training, such as perfecting the Law on Vocational Training and related documents; attracting ODA and developing high-quality and regional and international-class vocational training centers.

Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thain Nhan said the Vietnamese Government is extremely interested in renovating and improving training quality to meet requirements for the country’s industrialization and modernization and will spare no effort to better the quality of its human resources.

In the meantime, Viet Nam is also pursuing the market-based training mode, which is a common trend and an effective approach long applied by developed countries, and striving to adopt professional standards in the field.

Deputy PM Nhan proposed that Viet Nam should strengthen cooperation with other ASEAN member states and developed countries like Germany, centering on vocational training quality through bilateral and multilateral forms; experience sharing and recognition of skills among the ASEAN bloc.

Tomorrow, the conference will discuss issues around the contingent of trainees – who play a key role in making breakthroughs in vocational training in the coming time./.
