Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc on July 15 signed a document requesting Vietnamese universities to re-enroll Vietnamese students studying abroad and foreign ones as their study programs are frozen by the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Covid-19 has evolved complicatedly across the globe. So far, a large number of returnees are students who expect to keep their studies at Viet Nam-based universities.

The Ministry of Education and Training recommends universities take in qualified overseas Vietnamese students and international ones.

Universities are responsible for admitting overseas Vietnamese students and international ones upon their requests and capabilities to international training programs in English and joint-training programs with international universities.

The admission process must be suitable with enrolment conditions and training capacity.

Universities were asked to consider credit exemptions for learners who had finalized similar studying programs in foreign countries in accordance with current regulations.

Statistics showed that the number of Vietnamese students studying in European countries and the U.S. was high, at about 190,000.

As the EU and the U.S. have been hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of Vietnamese students there expressed their wish to return home.

The US administration’s new visa policy for international students may affect about 24,000 Vietnamese students who are attending universities or participate in training programs, as well as non-academic or vocational studies in the U.S./.
