Russian, Vietnamese women join hands for sustainable development

VGP - The Russian – Vietnamese Women Forum, themed ‘Joining hands to promote sustainable development’ was held in Ha Noi on July 22.

The event marked the 25th anniversary of the signing of the treaty on fundamental principles of Viet Nam – Russia friendship and the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

At the forum, the delegates heard presentations on issues of common concern, significantly contributing to the implementation of sustainable development of goals of the United Nations, such as the promotion of gender equality in education, people and cultural exchange.

Speaking at the forum, member of the Party Central Committee and President of the Viet Nam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Thu Ha said that the cooperation between women from the two countries is an indispensable part in the Viet nam – Russia relations.

The VWU’s President also noted that Vietnam wished to learn from the experience of the Russian side, particularly on maternal and child care and developing talents.

The VWU has contributed to developing the friendship and cooperation between the two nations through various activities, she added.

Participants discussed the role of today’s women in cultural development and gender equality in education, people-to-people diplomacy and culture in fostering peace and friendship, women’s perspectives on translated literary works, new social challenges, among others.

The event, held by the Viet Nam Women's Union is part of activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the signing of the treaty on basic principles for the Viet Nam – Russia bilateral friendship (1994-2019) and the 70th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties (1950-2020).
