Saint Gióng is the symbol of

indomitability of Vietnamese people

If accepted by the Government and the MCST, the festival will be the first one of its kind to run for the post of a World Immaterial Cultural Heritage.

It is also a meaningful activity to welcome the 1000th anniversary of Thăng Long-Hà Nội.

The Việt Nam Institute of Culture and Arts will be in charge of establishing the files which is scheduled to be submitted to UNESCO at the end of August.

Saint Gióng, also called Emperor Phù Đổng, is one of the four immortals in the Vietnamese folk beliefs. The legend says that, at the age of 3, he smashed a powerful army of invaders and protected peace for the country. After the victory, he rode his iron horse up to the sky.

Saint Gióng is the symbol of indomitability and patriotism of Vietnamese people.

The Saint Gióng Festival is annually held in the fourth lunar month, from the 6th to the 12th days. The Festival takes place in several localities within Hà Nội.

The Festival is a chance for attendants to watch the performance of traditional rituals and artistic activities which have been handed down from generations to generations.
