Scientists need to shoulder greater role in COVID-19 fight

VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on scientists to shoulder greater role in the fight against COVID-19 as the pandemic is anticipated to last long with unpredictable developments.

Addressing a meeting with 70 scientists on September 1, the Government chief expected them to focus on studying viruses to serve as input to design effective responses to different variants, including social distancing measures and treatment therapies.

More than ever, the Government needs greater efforts and enthusiasm of experts and scientists to win the COVID-19 pandemic and other diseases, Pham emphasized.

As of 7:00 pm on Wednesday, Viet Nam confirmed 473,530 COVID-19 cases, of which 469,311 are domestic cases recorded in 62 cities and provinces since the fourth COVID-19 wave began in late April.

Ho Chi Minh City is current epicenter with 226,636 cases, followed by Binh Duong (118,228), Dong Nai (24,525), and Long An (22,640)./.
