Seminar on Viet Nam’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 held in Singapore

VGP – A seminar, themed “Viet Nam with the role as the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020: Cohesive and Responsive” took place on December 17 in the Singapore-based Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), which was co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung and Director of the ISEAS Shing Kwok.

The seminar attracted the participation of professionals, scholars and reporters from institutes, organizations and press agencies. 

Speaking at the event, Dung highlighted the responsibility of Viet Nam as the Chair of ASEAN in 2020, the global and regional portrait, achievements and challenges of ASEAN after 52 years of establishment and development, Viet Nam’s diplomatic policy, inclusive topic of ASEAN 2020, five priorities of Viet Nam during the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 and the future’s development. 

As the Chair of ASEAN in 2020, Viet Nam will work to enhance and strengthen ASEAN’s interests and prosperity, as well as  identifying key cooperative areas, proposing new initiatives and plans, timely and effectively responding to urgent issues or crisis affecting ASEAN. 

Top priorities of Viet Nam’s 2020 ASEAN Chairmanship include: (i) strengthening ASEAN unity and solidarity; (ii) promoting regional integration and connectivity and enhancing ASEAN capacity to adapt to dynamic changes from the 4th industrial revolution; (iii) promoting ASEAN Community identity and awareness; (iv) accelerating ASEAN’s global partnership for peace and sustainable development; (v) and increasing ASEAN’s institutional capacity and effectiveness.
