Shrimp, tuna exports to EU rocket

VGP – Shrimps exports to the EU in August witnessed a year-on-year increase of 20% as the EU has gradually controlled the COVID-19 pandemic and the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has taken effect since August 1, 2020.

Tuna exports to the EU witness a year-on-year increase of 65% in July.

The EU is the fourth largest shrimp importer of Viet Nam after the US, Japan and China, making up 13.3% of Viet Nam’s total shrimps export value.

In July, Viet Nam gained US$54.2 million from exporting shrimps, up 2% against the same period last year.

After five years since the EVFTA comes into effect, all tariff lines on Viet Nam’s shrimps exported to the EU will be reduced to 0%.

Thanks to positive signs in shrimp exports over the recent months, the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) forecasted that shrimp exports to the EU will continue to thrive.

Tuna exports to the EU in June reduced by 17% in comparison with the same period last year but saw a year-on-year increase of 65% in July.

According to the statistics of the General Department of Customs, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands are three biggest tuna importers of Viet Nam in the EU. In July only, tuna exports to these three markets witnessed respective growths of 119%, 200% and 210%.

Tuna exports to Israel and Canada rocketed in July, recording respective year-on-year increases of 26% and 146%.
