Social insurance beneficiaries rapidly increases in Việt Nam, up 6 times between 1996 and 2009 – Illustration photo

Established in 1995, the VSI now becomes a solid pillar of Việt Nam’s social security system, with comprehensive policies and strong management apparatus.
Around 1.2 million of people are now the regular beneficiaries of social insurance, including 850,000 enjoying of retirement pension (70.8%).
The number of the regular beneficiaries increased rapidly on year-on-year basis, from 22 million in 1996 to 130 million last year.
During the period of 2003–2009, the sector offered medical examination and treatment to over 400 million turns of people using health insurance.
Addressing the VSI’s 15th anniversary on Wednesday, Deputy PM Nguyễn Sinh Hùng confirmed that the social insurance would continue to be a top prioritized field in the Party and State’s policies to better people’s life.
He pointed out some major assignments to be fulfilled by the VSI in the time to come, namely:
First, the VSI should continue to perfect and renew social insurance policies to ensure social security.
Second, it must develop its qualified staff.
Third, the social insurance fund should be upgraded to the country’s biggest one.
The Deputy PM urged the VSI to cooperate with ministries and sectors to expand risk insurance both in terms of quantity and quality as well as social insurance beneficiaries.
