VGP – The Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations on June 6 sent to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Note addressed to China to oppose China’s continued illegal operation of the oil rig Haiyang Shiyou 981 in Viet Nam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.

VGP – Viet Nam will never sacrifice its independence, sovereignty for anything and the country will stand firm in the face of any threat or imposition.

VGP - Viet Nam has sufficient historical and legal evidence to prove its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) islands, which the country occupied peacefully in the 17th century and has since excercised its jurisdiction over them.

VGP – Since May 3, Chinese vessels guarding the oil rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 illegally placed in Viet Nam’s waters have injured 12 Vietnamese people and damaged 24 vessels of the Viet Nam law enforcement forces, officials said.
