State President Sang meets with Chinese leaders

VGP – State President Truong Tan Sang on Thursday met with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to discuss on major orientations as well as concrete measures to further enhance political trust between Viet Nam and China.

Both sides agreed to beef up trade and economic linkages in a more effective and sustainable manner and enrich the content of the strategic partnership.

They committed to close coordination in implementing the five-year plan for the Viet Nam-China economic and trade co-operation for the 2012-2016 period and expanding cooperation in other fields like agriculture, transport, manufacturing and supporting industries, and infrastructure development.

The two countries vowed to raise the two-way trade turnover to US$60 billion by 2015.

State President Sang asked China to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods, particularly farm produce and seafood, to penetrate in the market.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the two leaders agreed to maintain contacts, dialogues and properly settle emerging problems through peaceful measures and in accordance with common perception of the two countries’ top leaders, international law and the Viet Nam-China agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues.

On the same day, State President Sang also met with Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhang Dejiang.

State President Sang is now paying a State visit to China at the invitation Chinese President Xi Jinping.

After his talks with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping yesterday, the two Presidents witnessed the signing of several cooperative documents including:  

- A joint plan of action between Governments of Viet Nam and China on implementing the Viet Nam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership,

- A border defense cooperation agreement between the two Ministries of Defense,

- An agreement between Viet Nam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and China’s Ministry of Agriculture on the establishment of a hot line on unexpected incidences in fishing operations at sea,

- A framework agreement between the two governments on China ’s provision of preferential credit worth ¥320 million for Viet Nam’s railway information system,  a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two Governments on establishing a cultural centre in each country,

- The working statutes of the Viet Nam -China Joint Committee on Land Border Gate Management,

- An agreement between MARD and China ’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine on cooperation in the field of animal and plant quarantine in import-export,

- A cooperation plan between the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and China ’s People’s External Friendship Association in the 2013-2017 period,

- An agreement on preferential buyer’s credit worth 45 million USD for the Ninh Binh Fine Coal-based Urea Plant project,

- And the 4th amendment to an agreement between Viet Nam Oil and Gas Corporation (PetroViet Nam) and China National Offshore Oil Corporation ( CNO OC) on the joint exploration in agreed offshore areas in the Gulf of Tonkin./.
