State President Trương Tấn Sang on November 23 in Hà Nội held talks with his Israeli counterpart Shimon Peres who is on an official visit to Việt Nam.

In an atmosphere of frankness and openness, the two sides reached consensus on orientations and measures to boost the bilateral ties, especially in the fields of trade, science and technology.

Việt Nam hopes to continue to consolidate and lift the multifaceted cooperative ties with Israel to a new height.

In spite of their vast potentials, the scope of linkages between the two countries remains modest and incommensurate with each other’s potential and aspiration, said State President Sang.

Việt Nam welcomes Israeli investors and hopes to receive further support from the Middle East country for Vietnamese enterprises to set footholds there, added Mr. Sang.

The two leaders were unanimous in taking new measures to raise two-way trade turnover, establish an inter-governmental committee, and expand cooperation in potential fields like agriculture, education, culture, tourism, and local linkages.

The two sides also agreed to step up information sharing and contacts among business circles and welcomed the organization of the Việt Nam-Israel business forum on the occasion of the visit.

President Shimon Peres affirmed that Israel stands ready to back Việt Nam to realize its prioritized areas in the agricultural sector on the basis of friendship.

Right after the talks, State President Trương Tấn Sang and President Shimon Peres witnessed the signing of an Agreement on Maritime Transport and a document on supplements to the Financial Protocol./.
