At the meeting, Ms. Amira Elfadil Mohammed Elfadil spoke highly of the cooperative relations between nations in Africa and Viet Nam, especially in priority areas such as processing industry, agriculture, mining and tourism.

She expected that Viet Nam will play a role in connecting African nations with Asia, especially Southeast Asian countries.

The AU leader expressed thanks to Viet Nam for supporting people of African countries via telecommunications technology, asserting that the AU is willing to cooperate with Viet Nam at multilateral forums, especially in the framework of the United Nations and the Francophonie.

For his side, State President Quang highlighted Viet Nam’s consistent policy of treasuring relations with African nations, hailing the active role and contributions of the AU in ensuring peace, stability and security in the continent and the world.

He hoped that developing countries, including ones in Africa, and Viet Nam support each other to further increase their voice and influence in multilateral mechanisms like the United Nations, Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and South-South cooperation.

The Vietnamese leader proposed African countries back Viet Nam’s candidacy to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021 tenure.

As a responsible member of the international community, Viet Nam has sent officers to join the UN peacekeeping force in Africa, he asserted.

The two sides consented to establish a regular dialogue mechanism to enhance cooperation at international forums and join hand in protecting interests for developing nations.

They agreed to strengthen information exchanges and experience sharing in areas of mutual concerns such as peace-keeping activities within the UN, agricultural development, education, infrastructure, information technology and telecommunications.
