State President wraps up China visit in success

VNGOP – State President Nguyễn Minh Triết, his spouse and the senior delegation of the Vietnamese State left Beijing on May 18, finishing the fruitful official visit to China. Before his departure, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết had a meeting with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

State President Nguyễn Minh Triết meets Chinese PM Wen Jiabao

In the meeting, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết asked the Chinese Government to encourage Chinese enterprises to import more Vietnamese goods, including agro and marine products, vegetables, fruits, and wooden products to help Vietnam reduce her increasing trade gap.

The State President also suggested the Chinese Government to consider and provide preferential credits for the construction of express railway routes and highways within the "Two corridors, one economic belt" in Vietnam on the basis of mutual benefits. The two countries should establish a mechanism to share information in order to make use of water resource from the Red and Mekong Rivers for the sake of development, he added.

In the afternoon of May 18, meeting Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Jia Qinglin, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết emphasized that the cooperation between the CPPCC and the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) has been considerably developed, contributing to the increased mutual understanding and trust among sectors, localities and peoples of the two countries. The President proposed the CPPCC and the VFF to further share their experience and promote their role in educating the peoples about the traditional friendship between China and Vietnam.

Previously, in the morning, addressing before over 300 Chinese and Vietnamese businesses at the Vietnam-China Business Forum in Beijing, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết reconfirmed that Vietnam always considers China her number-one trade partner and the senior leaders of the two countries are striving to increase two-way trade turnover to US$ 15 billion by 2010.

At the Forum, the President witnessed Chinese and Vietnamese enterprises sign many economic contracts and agreements worth of more than US$ 2.5 billion.
