Strong Party, National Development, Everlasting Nation

Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong.

In his latest article written on the occasion of the 89th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (February 3, 1930-February 3-2019), Trong highlighted the country’s bright panorama in 2018, including decade-high GDP growth of 7.08% and record foreign exchange reserves of US$60 billion.

The economy size was estimated at US$240 billion, or 1.3 times higher than that of 2015, according to the Party Chief.

Viet Nam became the 7th member country to ratify the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) which took effect for Viet Nam on January 14, 2019. This is the new-generation trade deal with higest commitments that Viet Nam has joined so far.

In terms of diplomacy, the country successfully hosted several international events, particularly the World Economic Forum on ASEAN 2018 with the participation of a number of foreign leaders and around 1,000 local and foreign business representatives and  the 26th Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Parliarmentary Forum with the attendance of 22 parliamentary delegations and more than 300 guests.

At the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, Viet Nam was elected to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) for the tenure 2019-2025. The UNCITRAL membership will help the country to enhance consultation and share international experience to improve its legal corridor in support of sustainable development.

Viet Nam was selected in May as the only candidate of the Asia-Pacific region for non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2020-2021 tenure and will assume ASEAN Chair in 2020.

Regarding institutional building, the National Assembly and the Government have enacted a string of policies to address pressing issues faced by the country while the 12th Party Central Committee has issued several resolutions on improving socialist-oriented market economy institutions, developing private economy, and restructuring and innovating State-owned enterprises.

On apparatus organization, the Party has introduced resolutions and regulations on continuation of rearranging and innovating the apparatus of the whole political system, on reforming salary and social insurance policies among others in order to create fundamental foundations and strong impetus for future sustainable development.

For the fight against corruption, many serious corruption cases involving high-ranking officials have been brought to trial. In less than three years, more than 60 cadres under the direct management of the Party Central Committee have been disciplined, in which one Politburo member was dispelled from the Party and sentenced to 30 years in prison and 11 former members of the Party Central Committee. This is the breakthrough in Party building work in order to tighten discipline throughout the State apparatus and the political system, which has contributed to consolidating trust of people from all social strata in the Party’s leadership.

Our country’s status and strengths have been strengthened and many international organizations have said Viet Nam is a stable country with good development outlook, a fast-growing economy in the region and the world.

It is clear that an exciting atmostphere and trust in the Party’s leadership are spreading across the country following the 12th National Party Congress, Trong wrote.

Over the past 89 years since its inception, the Party’s right and clear-sighted leadership has proved to be the decisive factor behind every victories of the Vietnamese revolutions, the Party leader emphasized.

Also during the reviewed period, in Viet Nam, no other political force other than the Communist Party of Viet Nam that has enough will, brainpower, experience, prestige and capacity to lead the country through all difficulties and challenges to successes, according to Trong.

After the 12th National Party Congress, the Party has took great deal of time and effort for Party building, considering it  the core task in a bid to improve its leadership capacity and push back corruption and wastefulness.

Trong called for greater efforts in accelerating Party building work as he believes that once the Party is strong, the country will develop and the nation will last forever./.
