Successful APEC 2006 proves VN's active policy on international integration, said State President

APEC Vietnam 2006 lasted for the whole year 2006 with hundreds of events, attracting over 10,000 senior officials, businessmen, experts, scientists from the world's economic powers, including the US, Japan, Russia and China.

Addressing the meeting, President Nguyễn Minh Triết, as the Chairman of the 14th APEC Leaders' Meeting, emphasized that, by organizing APEC 2006, Vietnam gained many important achievements: becoming a full WTO member after a 10-year process of negotiation, obtaining the Permanent Normal Trade Relations status from the US, and being nominated as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2008-2009.
The successes of APEC 2006 also helped to increase people's confidence in the Vietnamese Communist Party and State's leadership, the President affirmed. During the event, the Vietnamese people convincingly expressed their patriotism, national pride and hospitality, he said.

In the meeting, the State President also awarded First-grade Labor Medals and First-grade Feat of Arms Medals to the eminent contributors to the APEC Vietnam 2006.
