Ten records recognized in Asia

VGP - The Asian Record Organization will recognize ten Vietnamese records as Asian records on May 26. The list of the records was announced at a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City.

The biggest bronze-made pagoda on the mountain top of Yen Tu mountain in the northern province of Quang Ninh. The Pagoda was re-built in 2006 at the height of over 1086m above the sea level. The Pagoda is 3.35m high, 3.6m wide, and 4.6m long. It was re-cast in 70 tons of pure bronze

The longest corridor with 500 Arhats statues is located in Bai Dinh Pagoda, Gia Vien District in the northern province of Ninh Binh. The work consists of two corridors with the total length of 3,400 meters and was built of 10,000 m3 of woods by 100 artisans and 700 sculpture workers. Each statue is 2-2.5 meters in height and 2-2.5 tons in weight.

The biggest bronze gold-inlaid statue of Sakyamuni at Bai Dinh pagoda. The statue is 10m high and weighs 100 tons.

The biggest Christ statue is located in Tao Phung mountain in Vung Tau city. It is 32m high, standing on a 7 meters high platform, with two outstretched arms spanning 18.4 meters. There is a 133-step staircase inside the statue.

 The only record for an individual belongs to a 12-year-old boy, Bui Ngoc Thinh, in the central province of Khanh Hoa. The blind boy can play seven musical instruments

The Con Dao Prison was recognized as the largest prison on an island. This relic is located on Con Dao Island, offshore the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. Construction of the prison systems by the French colonial government began on February 1, 1862. There were six prisons built by the French. The total number reached 11 prisons--of which four were newly built and one was extended in the American war in Vietnam, including the infamous "Tiger Cages."

The longest dry cave – Thien Duong (Paradise) cave in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park is located at the height of 360 meters above sea level and is the longest dry cave in Asia at 31.4 km in length, 60 meters in height and 30-100 meters in width.

The longest tunnel is Cu Chi in Ho Chi Minh City. The tunnels were built in 1948 at the location of several military campaigns during the war against the US with the total length of 250 km.

The biggest flower-made Goddess of Mercy statue was made at Linh Phuoc pagoda, Da Lat city. The statue is 15.5 meters in height, 3 tons in weight and made of 500,000 immortal flowers.

The largest book – “Thi Van Yen Tu” consists of 300 pages, weighing 120 kg and the size of 125cm x 80cm x 16cm. The product, made by Dr. Hoang Quang Thuan, includes 143 poems. The book is displayed at Truc Lam Zen Monastery in Uong Bi city, the northern province of Quang Ninh.
