VGP – Viet Nam on Friday confirmed six new Covid-19 cases, including three Belarusian nationals, bringing the patient tally to 1,391.

Many students come to the Viet Nam Military Medicine Academy to register for participating in phase 1 trials of vaccine Nanocovax developed by local vaccine producer Nanogen. After a week-long recruitment of volunteers, the first injection is planned on December 17, 2020.

Patient 1,386 is a 35-year-old man in Trung Hoa Ward, Ha Noi’s Cau Giay District.

He was brought home on December 5 from Russia on flight QH9195.

The patient is being treated at Ninh Sim Clinic in Ninh Hoa District of the south central coastal province of Khanh Hoa.

He is the 9th passenger onboard the flight to have been confirmed positive for the virus.

Patient 1,387 is a 28-year-old man in Van Nhue Commune, An Thi District, Hung Yen Province.

He took flight VN5062 from Russia to the central city of Da Nang on December 6.

The patient is being treated at the Da Nang Hospital for Lung Diseases.

Earlier, one passenger onboard the flight had tested positive for the virus.

Patient 1,388 is a 63-year-old woman in Ward 7, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City.

She flew from the Republic of Korea to Da Nang City on November 23 on flight VN431.

The patient is being treated at the Da Nang Hospital for Lung Diseases.

The woman is the 6th passenger onboard the flight to have tested positive for the virus.

Patients from 1,389 to 1,391 are Belarusian couple and their three-year-old son who landed in Ha Noi-based Noi Bai International Airport on November 28.

They are being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ha Noi’s Dong Anh District.

The same day, 13 more patients were declared free of the virus, raising the total recoveries to 1.237.

So far, Viet Nam reported 35 Covid-19 fatalities, of whome 31 in Da Nang, three in Quang Nam and one in Quang Tri.

Apart from taking early and drastic measures to contain the spread of the pandemic, Viet Nam has stepped up efforts in vaccine research and development.

At present, Viet Nam is among 40 countries around the world experimenting vaccine trials on humans. Four vaccines are now under development by local producers namely Nanogen, the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (IVAC), Vaccine and Biological Production Company No. 1 (Vabiotech) and the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals (Polyvac).

The Southeast Asian nation’s successful management of the Covid-19 pandemic has provided an inspiring story, according to Caitlin Wiesen, UNDP Resident Representative in Viet Nam./.
