Top 50 Vietnamese gift specialties introduced (Part 1)

VGP – The Viet Nam Record Organization recently published the list of 50 gift specialties which were nominated by localities, tourism agencies, domestic and foreign tourists.

Da Lat Atiso: In the Central Highlands city of Da Lat, dried atiso tea is used widely by local people as it is proved to be good for your skin and liver function. The product is sold in every market.

Hot cake – Banh cay: “Hot cake” is made in Nguyen village, Dong Hung district, Red river delta Thai Binh province. It is made of sticky rice, sugar, sesame, gardenia, mandarin orange peel and lard. The cake is usually served with tea and eaten during Tet holidays.

“Green bean cake” or Banh Dau Xanh Hai Duong is a sweet rectangular cake made of green bean, sugar, fat and grapefruit oil. The specialty has been selected as one of the top specialty gifts of Asia.

Rice paper of Tay Ninh province known as ‘Banh Trang Phoi Suong’ is used as a snack or in main meals. This light snack is largely consumed across the country and now exported to many countries around the world.

In cake or banh in is made in a circle shape and eaten during the Ooc Om Boc festival in the southern province of Soc Trang. The cake is offered as gratitude to the moon which brings good health and abundant crops to human being

Pia cake – banh pia with the sweet taste and pure scent of durian is a specialty in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang. The cake has a harmonious combination of many ingredients including pliable layers of green peas (or taro), pork fat and the yolk of salted duck eggs.

Coconut milk crackers - Banh Phong Sua Dua is a specialty of southern Ben Tre province. It is made from coconut, rice powder, sugar, sesame, green bean and has been selected as one of the top specialty gifts of Asia.

Husband and wife cake – banh phu the: the cake symbolizes the loyalty of husband and wife. The cake, made in the northern province of Bac Ninh, features a mixture of tapioca flour, pandan, mung bean paste, sugar, sesame seeds and coconut milk.

Sa Giang prawn crackers – banh phong tom: the tasty product of southern Dong Thap province has been famous since 1960. It is made of ground shrimp, sometimes mixed with cuttlefish, arrowroot flour, tapioca flour, onion, garlic, sugar, fish sauce, cracked black pepper and salt. The ingredients are mixed well and sliced into thin rounds before being fried.

Buon Me Thuot’s coffee originates from the central highlands province of Dak Lak. This prime-grade coffee rich in caffeine maintains its original color and is now exported to many countries around the world.
