Transport output goes up
VGP – In 2019, the transport sector attained encouraging outcomes including sharp increase in transport quality, sharp decrease in traffic accidents in number, deaths and injuries, and the groundbreaking of 16 transport projects.

The Ministry of Transport (MoT) convened a meeting to sum up operation in 2019 and figure out plans for 2020. The event drew the attendance of Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung.
The MoT reported that transport output was estimated at 1,684 million tons of goods, up 9.7%. The transport sector served 5,143 million passengers, up 11.2% against 2018.
Regarding traffic accidents, in 2019, there were 17,626 traffic accidents, a year-on-year decline of 5.06%; and 13,624 injuries, down 7.15%.
In 2019, 16 transport projects were put into operation, the construction of 15 others began.
The MoT composed a project to renovate investment construction work in the transport sector; issued telegraphs and directives to prevent negative behaviors of bidder selection.
Top 8 tasks for transport sector
Addressing the meeting, Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung pointed out eight groups of tasks for the transport sector.
Firstly, the MoT was asked to early issue an action plan to implement Resolution 01 and Resolution 02 of the Government; and realize the Action Plan to raise competitiveness and develop logistics services by 2025.
Secondly, the MoT was urged to focus on law making on schedule and at good quality;
Thirdly, the ministry was requested to center on planning in the 2021-2030 period especially road, railway, seaport, airport, inland waterway planning schemes;
Fourthly, properly implementing important projects especially national key ones including My Thuan-Can Tho Highway, Long Thanh international airport, North-South express railway project, and metro projects in Ha Noi and HCMC. The Deputy PM underlined that it is necessary to early put Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro into operation.
Fiftly, strengthening investment and supervision of construction projects;
Sixthly, working with ministries, agencies, and localities to conduct measures and solutions to ensure transport safety; reduce traffic congestion; and reduce transport accidents;
Seventhly, boosting investigation and settlement of accusations and complaints./.
