Two more coronavirus-related deaths confirmed, total fatalities rise to 27

VGP – The Ministry of Health on August 22 and 23 confirmed two more deaths of COVID-19 in Viet Nam, taking the nation’s death toll to 27.

Viet Nam records 27 deaths of COVID-19 so far.

Patient 666, a 93-year-old man in Da Nang City died of COVID-19 and other diseases at 5:20 p.m. at the Hoa Vang District Field Hospital in Da Nang City.

His causes of death included pneumonia due to COVID-19, septic shock, multi-organ failure and avascular necrosis on his right leg.

He had history of hypertension, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, chronic kidney failure and dementia.

He was admitted to Da Nang Hospital for treating other diseases on July 23, several days before the hospital was identified a Covid-19 hotspot. He tested positive for the novel coronavirus on August 4 and was transferred to Hoa Vang field hospital for treatment.

The man is the oldest among Viet Nam's Covid-19 deaths to date. The youngest was 33.

Patient 577 is a 73-year old woman in Lien Chieu, Da Nang City.

She had a history of end-stage kidney failure, high blood pressure, heart failure, and thigh bone fracture.

The patient suffered chronic kidney disease for eight years and needed dialysis twice a week in the past four years.

She was treated at the Department of Renal Medicine at the Da Nang Hospital from July 21 to 24. She also broke her leg during this period.

On July 29, she was tired and had breathing difficulties and then was admitted to the Da Nang Hospital. She was confirmed positive for the coronavirus on the same day.

Two days later, she suffered severe respiratory failure. She was put on a ventilator and received intensive care.

On August 4, she was transferred to the field hospital in Hoa Vang District.

On August 22, she fell into a deep coma and died at 10.40 am of August 23.

She died of septic shock and multi-organ failure due to pneumonia caused by COVID-19.

As of early August 23, Viet Nam confirmed 1014 COVID-19 infection cases, 563 of whom were declared clear of the virus and exited hospitals, accounting for 55.5%.

Since July 25, Viet Nam has recorded 527 cases linked to Da Nang City.
