UNICEF provides US $2 mil. to help An Giang’s children

VGP – With a non-fundable aid from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the authority of the southern province of An Giang is conducting the Project “An Giang Children’s Friendship” to support poor children.

August 10, 2008 4:16 PM GMT+7

The UNICEF-funded project includes seven components, namely prevention of child accidents and injuries, child protection, education, clean water and rural environment preservation, children and HIV/AIDS, health care, and nutrition.

As reported, it will be implemented in ten communes of three suburban districts (Tịnh Biên, An Phú and Phú Tân) until the end of 2010.

The project is believed to help upgrade the local authority’s capacity in terms of child care and protection, supplying clean water, environment protection in primary schools and kindergartens, and education on national defense.

It is expected that by late 2008, 85% and 80% of the local population where the project is carried out will have access to clean water and skills in preventing children accidents and injuries respectively.
