Ambassador Lê Lương Minh, Việt Nam’s representative at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), made the statement while urging all sides in Guinea Bissau to prioritize their national interests and boost up dialogues and reconciliation.

The UNSC on November 5 approved a presidential statement hailing the peaceful presidential elections in Guinea Bissau in June and July.

The document supports the formulation of the United Nations Integrated Peace-building Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS) on January 1, 2010 in favor of reconstruction and development in Guinea Bissau.

Ambassador Lê Lương Minh backed the active cooperation among the UN, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Bretton Woods institutions, and the international community to support Guinea Bissau to overcome difficulties and uphold its domestic strength.

According to Ambassador Lê Lương Minh, the UN should assist Guinea Bissau on the basis of real situations there; close consultations with the Government of Guinea Bissau and regional organizations; and respect of independence, sovereignty and internal affairs of this country./.
