Using ADB loans to upgrade power grids in remote areas
VGP – The Government has agreed to allow the use of loans from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to fund a project on developing renewable energy and upgrading electricity grids in over 1,000 communes in faraway areas.
The
project has an investment capital of US $197.6 million, including US $151
million from ADB loans and the remainder from three power companies under the
Electricity Việt Nam (EVN).
The
project’s first component aims to develop 5-10 small hydroelectric plants which
will be connected to the national power grid in many northern and central
provinces to supply electricity to 25-50 poor communes there.
The
project also assists the Government’s electrification program in poor provinces
and ethnic minority areas.
