VGP - Vietnam’s second telecommunications satellite, VINASAT-2, is scheduled to be launched from French Guiana in mid-May.

Capitalized at some US $300 million, the satellite, produced by US firm Lockheed Martin, will be put into orbit using French rocket Arian 5.

It has a life-span of 15 years and carries 24 Ku-band transponders, and its coverage includes Southeast Asia and some neighboring countries.

The country’s first satellites, VINASAT-1, launched in 2008, has been tapped well, with 100% Ku frequency band and over 80% of C frequency band used. The Ku frequency band is most suitable to the development of high-quality TV and radio broadcast services.

VINASAT-2’s investor is the state-owned VNPT.
