PM Nguyen Tan Dung meets with Chairwoman of the Belgian Senate Sabine de Bethune

Chairwoman of the Belgian Senate Sabine de Bethune and Deputy Chairwoman of the Chamber Françoise Schepmans spoke highly of PM Dung’s visit and valued developments in bilateral parliamentary ties and contributions of the two bodies to enhancing Viet Nam – Belgium relations.

The two Belgium leaders stressed that they would help expand bilateral cooperation.

Both sides highlighted the two countries’ close coordination at multilateral forums and agreed to boost bilateral ties, while urging the EU to ratify the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement as soon as possible, recognize Viet Nam’s market economy and conclude negotiations for the Viet Nam-EU free trade agreement.

PM Dung conveyed National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung’s invitations to the two leaders on visiting Viet Nam and attending the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Hanoi.

On the same day, PM Dung visited Brussels City Hall and met with Brussels Mayor Ivan Mayeur, during which he said the city has contributed positively to promoting Viet Nam – Belgium and Viet Nam – EU relations.

The host affirmed that Brussels is ready to make further contributions to bilateral ties and Viet Nam – EU relations.

During another meeting between PM Dung and Minister-President of the French Community Rudy Demotte, both sides valued positive developments in relationship between Viet Nam and the French-speaking Belgian community and mutual support in the framework of the Francophonie.

PM Dung said that the 2013-2015 cooperation plan of the community to Viet Nam was practical, responding to requirements of socio-economic development in Viet Nam.

Demotte emphasized that his community attached importance to relations with Viet Nam and expressed his hope that further cooperation programs and projects would be continued, affirming that the community would keep contributing to bilateral ties between Viet Nam and Belgium.

PM Dung then met with President of the Wallonie-Bruxelles Parliament of the French-speaking Community, Jean-Charles Luperto.

Luperto recalled his deep impressions during his visit to Viet Nam two years ago, saying that Viet Nam and the community should expand cooperation in such traditional fields as culture and French teaching to that between universities and in vocational training.

PM Dung valued bilateral cooperation’s results and asked the Parliament and the community’s authority should continue to support multifaceted cooperation between the two countries and to promote relations between both countries’ parliaments.
