VN, Canada share experience in COVID-19 prevention

VGP - Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son has spoken over the phone with Canadian Deputy Foreign Minister Marta Morgan to discuss bilateral relations and share experience in COVID-19 prevention and control.

March 13, 2020 4:40 PM GMT+7

The two Deputy Foreign Ministers affirm Viet Nam and Canada will continue close coordination at international and regional forums in years ahead

The phone conversation was made at the request from the Canadian side.

During the conversation, the two Deputy FMs applauded the fine development of their countries’ ties in multiple fields, especially since the two countries established comprehensive partnership in 2017 and started to implement the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The pair pledged to intensify delegation exchanges at all levels whilst also maintaining the current cooperation mechanisms between the foreign ministries.

The deputy ministers affirmed that their countries will continue close coordination at international and regional forums while Viet Nam serves as the ASEAN Chair this year and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021.

Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, Deputy FM Son said the Vietnamese Government has deployed a range of drastic actions and spared no effort to curb the spread of the virus.

In addition, Viet Nam also pledges to further create favourable conditions for investment, production and business activities in the country, Son noted, asking Canada to work closely with Viet Nam in this regard, especially amid the complex and unpredictable developments of the COVID-19 outbreak.

In turn, Morgan highly valued the strong and active measures taken by Viet Nam against the COVID-19, indicating that her Government will continue to step up co-operation with Viet Nam within the framework of the comprehensive partnership.

Canada will also support the nation during its time as the ASEAN Chair during 2020 and as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council from 2020 to 2021, said Morgan.

She also expressed wish that both countries would continue working closely on several issues of shared concern at both regional and international forums./.
