VN, Cuba promote bilateral ties

VGP - Việt Nam and Cuba agreed to beef up the ties of friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries to make their relations more substantial and effective.

Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng on February 17 in Hà Nội met with Co-ordinator General of the Cuban Committees for the Defence of the Revolution (CDR).   

Mr. Martinez thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and people for their valuable support and assistance to Cuba and congratulated Việt Nam on the huge achievements in its renewal process for national construction and development.

He briefed the Party leader on the results of earlier talks between the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee and the CDR, as well as the recent positive changes in Cuba's socio-economic situation after nearly a year of implementing its sixth National Party Congress resolution.

Mr. Martinez expressed his wish that relations between the two Parties and countries and between the VFF and CDR will be further enhanced in the future.

Vietnamese Party chief Trọng highlighted the success of the Communist Party of Cuba's sixth Congress in April last year and the Party's national conference last January.

The host leader thanked the Cuban Party and people for their support for Việt Nam and also informed his guest of Việt Nam’s current situation and the content of the Vietnamese Party Central Committee's fourth conference affirming Việt Nam's determination to consolidate the relationship and cooperation between the two countries to improve their substance and effectiveness.

Earlier the same day, Mr. Martinez also held talks with VFF President Huỳnh Đảm.

The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the two Committees with a focus on stepping up public communication about the solidarity and traditional friendship between Việt Nam and Cuba./.
