VN, Italy beef up cooperation

VGP – The Italian Embassy in Viet Nam and the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry held the Viet Nam-Italy strategic dialogue: Enterprises’ partnership, universities, and creativity on November 8 in HCM City.

The event was attended by Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Vietnamese Deputy PM Vu Van Ninh.  

Addressing the dialogue, President Sergio Mattarella expressed his delight to partake in the dialogue which was held in HCMC with the biggest Italian community in Viet Nam.

He proposed the two countries seek far-reaching connectivity opportunities to tap global integration chances and beef up regular exchanges at all levels.

The guest leader also noted the importance of State management agencies, enterprises, associations, universities, NGOs for the better ties between Viet Nam and Italy.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Government, Deputy Ninh highlighted the vast achievements of the bilateral ties. Especially,in 2014, the two-way trade turnover fetched US$4 billion, a year-on-year surge of 17%. Italy became the fourth largest EU trading partner of Viet Nam.

However, according to the Deputy PM, Italian investment to Viet Nam remained modest in terms of registration capital as Italy ranked 9th in the EU and 28th out of 103 countries and territories investing in Viet Nam.

The host leader also introduced large business opportunities in Viet Nam, including a high economic growth with 5-6% on average, abundant labour force, political stability, the advantageous geographical position and plentiful natural resources. Especially, Viet Nam is deeply integrating into the regional and global economies by participating in ASEAN, WTO, APEC and TPP.

 Mr. Ninh said Viet Nam is entering the key period towards a higher development level of industrialization and modernization. It is ripe to upgrade the relations especially in economics and trade between the two countries.

At the forum, Vietnamese and Italian businesses exchanged cooperative opportunities in education, science, and technology.

The same day, Deputy PM Ninh hosted a reception for Italian Minister of Economic Development Federica Guidi./.
