VN Journalists Association to strive for better performance

VGP – Every six months, the Việt Nam Journalist Association (VJA) should cooperate with relevant agencies to invite prestigious foreign media and news agencies to Việt Nam so that they themselves can have, and then provide the international community, a better insight in the country, suggested Deputy PM Nguyễn Thiện Nhân.

Deputy PM Nguyễn Thiện Nhân made the statement at his working visit to the VJA this morning in Hà Nội.

Now, the VJA has some 17,000 members (an increase of 4,000 against the figure of 2005). Annually, it provides its members with hundreds of training professional courses.

The Association is drastically planning a journalism training center in Cầu Giấy District. The VND 102-billion project is scheduled to be put into operation in 2011.

Deputy PM Nguyễn Thiện Nhân reiterated that the Government continues offering special care to the development of the VJA, hoping that the VJA would further promote their role and position in the society.

The VJA needs to find ways to improve journalists’ capacity, and design standards for Vietnamese journalists, Deputy PM Nhân said.

The Deputy PM also asked the Association to shake hands with competent to highlight the role of press agencies in the cause of national construction and development.
