The communication campaign on human trafficking prevention along the common border between Viet Nam and Lao launched

The campaign was organized by the Women’s Union of the two countries and the Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice President of the Viet Nam Women’s Union (VWU) Bui Thi Hoa said that the organization has actively worked with ministries, agencies, organizations and localities to boost communication and education in order to improve the public awareness of human trafficking.

In Quang Tri province, which shares 206km with  Lao provinces of Savanakhet and Salavan, the VWU has organized training courses for communicators and dialogues with the community about safe labor immigration and human trafficking prevention, helping the residents know how to protect themselves and their relatives from human trafficking, detect and denounce the crimes, Hoa said.

The campaign is significant in helping local residents learn moreabout human trafficking, which tends to increase and causes negative effects in society. The number of victims and cases has risen year on year, mainly due to traffickers’ plots to entice gullible people.

According to the General Police Department for Crime Prevention and Suppression, under the Ministry of Public Security, 85 cases with 179 traffickers and 234 victims were detected in ten localities along the  border  shared by  Viet Nam and Laos. Of which, 151 Vietnamese victims were tricked and trafficked to Laos.
