VN, Mexico- Friendship and Cooperation Institute asks China to withdraw oil rig
VGP - In a letter sent to the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico, the Mexico-Viet Nam Friendship and Cooperation Institute called on Chinese authorities to respect agreements it has signed with Viet Nam and international organizations, especially those in which it pledges to solve any dispute by peaceful means.

Via the letter, the institute asked the Chinese Government to immediately withdraw its rig and forces from Viet Nam’s waters and end all aggression.
The institute suggested the federal government of Mexico, especially Foreign Minister Juan Antonio Meade, send a diplomatic note on this issue to the Chinese side.
The organization also invited Mexican citizens to join a campaign for peace and support of Viet Nam’s sovereignty.
The letter stated that from the beginning of May, China has conducted a series of actions against Viet Nam’s sovereign right and jurisdiction in the East Sea through its dispatch of the rig Haiyang Shiyou-981, as well as a large fleet of armed vessels, military ships and aircraft, to Viet Nam’s waters.
China’s acts seriously violate the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues signed by the two countries in October 2011, running counter to the 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea to which China is a signatory, and intentionally neglecting the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, it said.
Earlier, the Mexican Labor Party, the Mexico-Viet Nam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group, the Democratic Revolutionary Party and the parliament of Zacatecas state raised their voice backing Viet Nam’s stance of solving the East Sea issue peacefully./.
