Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh hosted a reception for Permanent Secretary of Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs Soe Han who was on a working visit to Viet Nam on November 14 in Ha Noi.

Mr. Minh highly praised the two sides for maintaining cooperative mechanisms including the Viet Nam-Myanmar Joint Committee for Bilateral Cooperation, exchanges of high-ranking delegations and regular contacts at multilateral forums.

According to the host leader, the two-way trade turnover grew over 20% to US$ 700 million in the first nine months of 2019 and was supposed to reach over US$ 1 billion in 2020.

Regarding investment, Deputy PM Minh hoped that the two sides took appropriate measures to boost Vietnamese  investments in Myanmar. So far, Viet Nam was the seventh largest investor in Myanmar by pouring nearly US$ 2.3 billion.

In reply, the Permanent Secretary highly valued the comprehensive ties between the two countries especially after the two sides formulated the comprehensive partnership in 2017.

The guest leader assessed that the two countries owned abundant potentials for cooperation in such areas as trade, investment, agriculture, and tourism.

The two leaders agreed to work closely in 2020 when Viet Nam will assume the ASEAN Chairmanship and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Earlier, Deputy FM Nguyen Minh Vu and Secretary of Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs Soe Han co-chaired the eighth political consultation between the two foreign ministries./.
