VN, US share policy making experience

VGP – A delegation of the Government of Việt Nam, headed by Deputy PM Nguyễn Thiện Nhân, has just started a working tour to the United States where they will exchange experience of making policies and discuss some education and climate change issues with the host officials.

The tour, lasting from November 02 to 10, is a part of the annual program 2008–2010 organized by the UNDP for Vietnamese senior managers and leaders.

The program 2009 will cover arising issues of the world economy, the global financial crisis and post-crisis economic prospects, focusing on such topics as the global economy and Việt Nam, industry policies and competition, education and technology, social policies in transitional economies, agricultural development, urbanization and climate change.

Last year, the Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải, took part in the same program held at Harvard University, Boston, Massachusetts.

According to Mr. Nguyễn Quốc Cường, Deputy FM, this is a good chance for Vietnamese policy-makers and American scholars, professors, researchers and CEOs to exchange their views of business development directions, globalization and impacts of the international economic changes on Việt Nam’s economy. Then senior managers and leaders can better their capacity of assessment, prediction, and designing socio-economic policies.

Việt Nam has achieved significant advancements in making socio-economic forecasts and policies in recent years.

In 2009, Vietnamese policy-makers have successfully predicted and assessed complicated changes of the world economy and negative impacts of the global crisis. Then they have adopted sound policies to bring the national economy out of difficulties and maintain a proper growth rate.

Through their working tour to the US, Deputy PM Nguyễn Thiện Nhân and Vietnamese officials also expect to give the world community a better insight and higher confidence in Việt Nam – an emerging economy in Asia and the world.
