Politburo member Minh receives newly appointed Indian Ambassador to Viet Nam Pranay Verma, Ha Noi, September 20, 2019

Politburo member Minh made the remark during his reception for newly appointed Indian Ambassador to Viet Nam Pranay Verma in Ha Noi on September 20.

According to the official, Viet Nam-India relations are growing actively across various fields, with the two sides are able to realize the US$15 billion target in two-way trade by 2020.

He asked the two sides to continue strengthening the exchange of high-level delegations, effectively maintain the cooperation mechanisms, such as the Joint Committee, the political consultation and the defence policy dialogue, and enhance meetings, coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums.

The Deputy PM affirmed Viet Nam’s support for India’s Look East policy, highly appreciating India’s stance on the East Sea, especially the respect of international laws.

For his part, Ambassador Pranay Verma pledged his utmost efforts to effectively finalize his working tenure in Viet Nam, contributing to further accelerating ties between the two countries.

The diplomat congratulated Viet Nam on its assumption of the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 and the non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for 2020-2021, stating that this is the chance for India to enhance cooperation with Viet Nam in particular and with ASEAN as a whole.

With a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Pranay Verma used to work at India’s Tata Steel Corporation and has been working in the diplomatic sector since 1994.

Before taking the mission in Viet Nam, he served as the Director of the East Asia Department under the Indian Foreign Ministry.
