VN attends UN Human Rights Council’s 38th session

VGP – Viet Nam, together with Bangladesh and the Philippines, will deliver a draft solution on women’s rights amidst climate change at the 38th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council that opened in Geneva, Switzerland on June 18.

Vietnamese Ambassador Duong Chi Dung, head of the Viet Nam Permanent Mission to the UN, the WTO and other international organisations in Geneva, is leading the Vietnamese delegation to the session.

The event, which runs through July 6, draws representatives from 47 member countries and more than 100 observer countries as well as international and non-governmental organisations.

Along with a dialogue with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, participants will discuss a wide range of issues including women’s rights, rights to health and education services, human trafficking, and migration.

They will consider 65 reports from UN institutions on human rights, while holding thematic discussions.

Participants are scheduled to approve the final Universal Periodic Review reports of 14 countries.

More than 30 draft resolutions on diverse matters related to human rights will be introduced by member states for consideration, debate and approval.

Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body of the UN system made up of 47 member states responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe.-VNA
