Addressing the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador Hoàng Chí Trung, Permanent Deputy Representative of Việt Nam, showed his deep concerns for difficulties faced by the UNMEE. He called on Eritrea to fully observe the Security Council’s Resolution 1798 and work with the UNMEE and the UN to find out solutions for the crisis.

The Ambassador pointed out that the crisis was originally resulted from the conflict between Eritrea and Ethiopia. He said the two sides should resume their peace talks and negotiations and cooperate with the UN to solve the current crisis as well as ensure safety for the UN workers.
