VNGOP - Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lê Dũng on February 2 strongly criticized Taiwanese leader Chen Shuibian’s visit to Ba Bình Island, Trường Sa Archipelago, as a violation to Việt Nam ’s territorial sovereignty.

In response to correspondents’ question about Việt Nam’s reaction to this issue, Mr. Lê Dũng said “Việt Nam considers the action a serious escalation that violated Việt Nam’s territorial sovereignty in regard to the Trường Sa Archipelago and increased tension as well as complication in the region.”

“Taiwan has to take full responsibility for any consequence caused by this action,” the Spokesman emphasized.

He reiterated Việt Nam’s stand towards Hoàng Sa and Trường Sa Archipelagos, saying that the country possesses strong historic evidence and legal ground to confirm its sovereignty over the two archipelagos.

“Việt Nam demands Taiwan put an immediate end to such violations in the region,” Mr. Lê Dũng concluded.
