VN exerts efforts to implement gender equality
VGP - Việt Nam is among developing nations winning high appraisal from the international community for its gender development index in comparison with other countries of the same development level in the region, said a female parliamentary member.

She said the law on gender equality has made elemental changes in eliminating every discrimination of gender equality, contributing to creating gender equality opportunities for both men and women in every aspect.
During past years, the NA amended, supplemented and inserted gender issues into many codes and ordinances, in order to ensure equality and create opportunities for women to participate in many areas of life.
The NA also promulgated new laws aimed at tackling all discrimination against women. Especially, the NA passed the Law on Gender Equality in 2006 as a message on legalizing principles of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in the Vietnamese legal system.
The seminar was part of the cooperative program between the NA Committee for Social Affairs and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) through a project to help the implementation of the UN Millennium Development Goals on eliminating discrimination against Vietnamese women.-VNA
