VN expects stronger defense cooperation with Russia, Deputy PM says

VGP – Permanent Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh suggested Vietnamese and Russian Ministries of Defense continue enhancing defense cooperation in a long-term, practical and trusted manner based on inked international and bilateral treaties and agreements.

The Vietnamese Deputy PM made that statement at his reception for Russian Deputy Defense Minister and Chief of Main Directorate for Political-Military Affairs of the Russian Armed Forces A.V. Kartapolov on October 22 in Ha Noi. 

A.V. Kartapolov reported to the Deputy PM the outcomes of the working sessions with the General Department of Politics of the Viet Nam People’s Army and the defense cooperation between the two sides, confirming that Russia attaches importance to the cooperative relations with Viet Nam, regarding it as prioritized task. 

He expressed thanks to the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense to regularly send forces to attend the international military conference, asserting commitments to support Viet Nam’s army in all aspects and hoping that the cooperative relationship in army will gain more achievements. 

Russian Ministry of Defense is willing to assist Viet Nam in organizing the international military sports festival, he said. 

For his side, Binh confirmed that Russia is the top and prioritized partner of Viet Nam’s diplomatic policy, adding that the defense cooperation plays a crucial role in Viet Nam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.       

Viet Nam is willing to support Russia to develop relationship with nations in ASEAN and take part in regional security mechanisms, affirmed the Deputy PM, proposing Russia continue joining in the ASEAN Defense Minister's Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus), especially when the nation will preside over the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020. 

He expressed his delight on the Russia’s enhancement of army official training for Viet Nam, adding that the Vietnamese Government advocates the organization of the international military sports festival in Viet Nam.
