VN fosters ties with APEC members

VGP – State President Truong Tan Sang took in a series of activities on October 7 in the framework and on the sidelines of the 21st APEC Summit in Bali, Indonesia.

At his meeting with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the State President highly valued the role of Indonesia as the host and chair of APEC 2013 in successfully organizing the forum's crucial events to date as well as its preparations for the 9th WTO Ministerial Conference in December.

The success of Indonesia has confirmed the status of ASEAN in Asia-Pacific and in the world, he added.

They agreed to cooperate in regional and international forums, and boost up the implementation of goals for an ASEAN Community to come into being by 2015 as well as consolidate the central role and voice of ASEAN when it comes to security and development issues.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of the Action Plan in phase 2014-2018  of the Viet Nam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership.

They expected that the program will deepen bilateral relationship effectively, benefiting greatly the two sides’ citizens and contributing to peace, prosperity, cooperation and development.

The Action Plan includes orientations and goals in the phase 2014-2018 to realize the Strategic Partnership in all fields of politics, national defense-security, economic-development, energy, agriculture-forestry-aquaculture and sea, transport, culture-sports-tourism and cooperation at regional and international forums.

At his reception for Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, State President Sang congratulated on Brunei Darussalam on his successfull role as the Chair of ASEAN in 2013 and its contributions to strengthening cooperation among ASEAN nations.

The two leaders are unanimous in coordinating with other ASEAN nations in establishing an ASEAN Community by 2015 and bringing into full play the role of ASEAN in the region.

They asserted to implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and complete the building of the first ever Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC).

They also exchanged views on promoting cooperative opportunities between the two nations in terms of economics, trade, investment, agriculture, seafood, energy, oil and gas, education-training and closely work together in negotiating the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership (TPP).

Dialogues with ABAC

The State President joined with leaders of top corporations in the region and in the world in the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC).

They discussed issues of mutual concerns such as creating favorable conditions for trade and investment, financial market, small and medium-sized enterprises, sustainable development and food security and energy.

They applauded proposals of businesses in enhancing the partnership between APEC and ABAC to bring realistic and specific benefits for business community and maintain the dynamic and vitality of the Asian-Pacific region.

Meeting with representatives of the US Business Alliance

Earlier, State President Sang had a dialogue with executives of nearly 20 big groups and corporations of the US Business Alliance. 

He lauded the effective operation of US businesses in Viet Nam and their contributions to the two countries’ relationship, especially after the two established the Comprehensive Partnership.

He reaffirmed Viet Nam's resolution in restructuring the economy and creating favorable conditions for foreign investors, including US partners.

Representatives of the US businesses expressed their belief in potentials and prospects of Viet Nam’s economy, especially the role of Viet Nam in negotiating the TPP.

They also thanked the State President’s attention to dealing with obstacles in the two sides’ cooperation.

They took the occasion to extend their condolences to Vietnamese people and the family of legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap over his passing away./.
