Mr. Sang, who is also standing member of the Secretariat of the CPV Central Committee, made the statement during his talks with Japanese PM Naoto Kan in Tokyo on Thursday.

The Vietnamese leader also hoped that Japan would soon recognize Việt Nam’s full market economy.

Both countries should work together to make the Việt Nam-Japan relationship a typical model of cooperation in Asia and the world, Mr. Sang said.

He took the occasion to extend Việt Nam’s deep sympathy to great losses caused by earthquakes and tsunami in Japan, affirming the Southeast Asian country’s full support for Japan to quickly overcome such difficulties.

For his part, PM Kan thanked the Vietnamese Government and people for their spiritual and material support to the victims of the recent calamities.

He also expressed that the Japan-Vietnam strategic partnership will continue to grow and flourish in the future.

Earlier the same day, Politburo member met with Chairman of the Japanese Communist Party Kazuo Shii.
